When people visit Sassy's Resource Center, I want them to know the woman behind the mission. I want people to understand that this resource center was not created by someone who simply noticed a problem and decided to build a website. It was created by someone who has lived through difficult seasons, needed help, searched for answers, and understands what it feels like to need someone to show up.

This is my story.

Today, I am a mother, a believer, a graduate, an advocate, and the founder of Sassy's Resource Center. My journey has not been easy, but every challenge, every lesson, and every season of my life has shaped the purpose behind what I am building today.

My Journey of Growth and Education

In 2019, I made one of the biggest decisions of my life: I decided to go back to school.

I wanted more for myself and my children. I wanted to create a better future and prove that it is never too late to change your life. I returned to school and earned my high school diploma through Ferndale Adult Education.

That moment was a turning point in my life.

After earning my diploma, I continued my education because I knew I had more to accomplish. I enrolled in college and later transferred to Southern New Hampshire University, where I pursued my bachelor's degree in Psychology with a concentration in Mental Health.

The journey was not easy. There were moments when I questioned if I would finish. There were times when life felt overwhelming, but I stayed determined. I knew I was not only doing this for myself — I was doing this for my children and the future I wanted to create.

On May 23, 2026, I graduated with my bachelor's degree.

That degree represents more than education. It represents perseverance. It represents every obstacle I overcame, every time I kept going when life was difficult, and every moment where I refused to give up.

The Experiences That Shaped My Purpose

But my story did not begin with my graduation.

My story also includes the seasons where I was the person who needed help.

In my 20s, I was a young mother trying to survive and provide for my children. I know what it feels like to depend on resources like food assistance, cash assistance, and Section 8. I know what it feels like to need support during a difficult season of life.

I remember one moment when I needed my food assistance because I had an interview that day. My DHS worker was supposed to call me back, but the call never came. I called 52 times because I needed help. I was hungry. I needed my benefits. I needed someone to answer.

That moment stayed with me.

"I remember telling myself, 'When I become a social worker, I will never treat my clients this way. I will answer my phone. I will be there for people when they need help.'"

That promise never left my heart.

Throughout my life, I have experienced seasons that tested my strength. I have experienced homelessness. I have lived in abandoned houses. I have stayed in different domestic violence shelters. I am a survivor of domestic violence and trauma.

There were moments when I felt like I had nobody to call except God.

But God was there.

Through every hardship, every uncertain moment, and every time I had to start over, God carried me.

My Healing Journey

Then in 2025, I faced another battle when doctors told me I had lupus.

At that moment, I felt like my life had changed forever. I did not know what my future would look like. I did not know what it would mean to have to walk all over again. I did not know how I would get through needing a blood transfusion and everything that came with that season.

But God was with me through it all.

God saved me, and God healed me.

Today, I am standing here telling my story of how God brought me through the lupus and through a season I never thought I would overcome.

Everything I have experienced has led me to the purpose behind Sassy's Resource Center.

Why I Created Sassy's Resource Center

I created Sassy's Resource Center because I know what it feels like to need help and not know where to turn.

I know what it feels like to call numbers that do not work, search for resources that are outdated, and feel discouraged when you are already struggling.

I believe people deserve better.

I originally dreamed of creating a physical building where people could walk in and receive help, support, and guidance. But we live in a digital world, and I realized the mission could begin right here, right now, through a website.

Sassy's Resource Center was placed on my heart not only for me, but for the people who need it the most.

My goal is to create a trusted resource center where individuals and families across Michigan can find verified information for housing, food assistance, utility programs, education opportunities, community resources, and other services that can help people rebuild their lives.

I am not someone looking from the outside in.

I have lived it.

I have been the person who needed help. I have been the person waiting for answers. I have been the person hoping someone would call back.

Now, I am creating a place where people can find support.

I am Shannon.

I am a survivor. I am a mother. I am a graduate. I am a believer. I am an advocate.

My past does not define me. My past prepared me.

Everything I survived became the reason I want to help others.

Sassy Resource Center is my testimony turned into action.

It is proof that God can take the hardest chapters of our lives and turn them into something meaningful.

This is my story.

This is my purpose.

And this is only the beginning.

The Scripture That Carries My Story

"He heals the brokenhearted and binds up their wounds."

— Psalm 147:3

This verse represents my journey because there were seasons when I felt broken, defeated, and unsure of what my future would look like. But God saw me, carried me, healed me, and gave me a new purpose.

Every chapter of my life — the struggles, the pain, the healing, and the victories — reminds me that God was always with me.

A Message of Courage

Your past may explain where you came from, but it does not have the power to decide where you are going. God can take your hardest battles and turn them into your greatest testimony.
